Day 1:
” HELLO JITHIN ARE YOU WILLING TO WORK? “
As everyone I too got a bit excited after the late night call from my uncle asking me to join a inspection team at his office. WOW at last i got a job. Very much excited. Cloud 9 thoughts creeped in me, thinking how much am I going to earn this week? 300 per day that would make it Rs.1800 , that’s more than enough for my new goggles , or how about a hangout with my friends????? Started boasting about it with my 12 year old sister as if I am employed for ever……. even bragged about it to her to the extend that I promised her a pair of new ear rings as if I am going to earn lacs within a week. I am so proud . That night was awesome , had a good time ,a lot of parties in my dreams with my first “salary” .
The most important part is that i still don’t have any idea about my job ?
Day 2:
” ITS A GOVERNMENT TEAM AND GOVT. EMPLOYEES DON’T WORK MUCH , WELL THAT MEANS ITS GONNA BE EASY GO FOR ME “
Oh yeah first day of my job and i am ready boss. Ready to rock and roll. Believe me or not for the first time after four years i got up at the first bell of my alarm. Earlier my uncle had told me to report at 9.00am today , yes i reached there exactly at nine. What the hell!!!!!!!! I don’t see anyone else other than the sweepers there. Oh shit , don’t i have the sense to understand that govt. offices only starts at 10? (i mean for opening the gates and work starts only at 10.30am , for the employees for sure ;P ) . Anyway patience jithin, thinking of the ‘salary’ that i am gonna get i waited there till 10.30am . Uncle arrives and told me that the inspection team would arrive in just 1 hour and they would explain the details to me and what my job is. But my anxiety about my fist job couldn’t prevent me from asking ‘what exactly are the inspecting? ‘ . WHAT THE FUCK?????? am i here to assist them in inspecting ‘shit’ ?????? Its the Nirmal Puraskar Team by the central government and i need to assist them. (hope all knows about the Nirmal Puraskar, its the national award that’s being given to panchayaths based on the hygiene and cleanliness )Oh god that’s terrible, I didn’t expect that my first job is gonna be that dirty??? I couldn’t speak anything or drop that at that instinct because its my uncle and if i am gonna speak anything against this then i am gonna be homeless. My dad is gonna kick me out. Anyway lets see whats gonna happen.
DAY 3 4 5 6 :
“THE INSPECTION DAYS “
K its almost 9am and I just woke up. After all that description that i got yesterday about my role even my 20th mobile snooz button couldn’t wake me up .Anyway I am in a deep trouble and have to deal with it. I reached there at about 10.30am, still nothing is ready there for inspection (right on, i guessed right, well experience makes man perfect ). K there where three of them in the main inspection team and they split up into three forming three groups. There was a tamilian too in that team , well my previous experience with tamilians were not that good and i purposefully avoided him. The team head handed over me a camera. Now what am i suppose to photograph ????? shit$*()_???????? oh holy crap.
K we were suppose to reach ****(not disclosing the name ) Panchayath at about 10am and we reached there at about 12am. Well need not be surprised that’s how things go in government way. We where all greeted well, after all I am a central government employee now. wow. I expected some serious conversation between the president and my team head. But the first thing that happened is ‘high tea’ . oh yeah something to cheer about. good start. k what next???? I found all the anganwadi teaches being seated in a hall there. So my team head asked me to collect their signatures . I did it. That’s not a big deal, not physically challenging too . I too enjoyed it when they started calling me ‘sir’. Oh yeah I am a central government employee so I am the boss. k its almost 1.30pm . Ok chicken biriyani ready ……… as soon as my team leader had his first bite I jumped into mine. Took out all my frustration on it that I didn’t even leave the fried chicken bone. Oh man that’s the most tasty lunch that I ever had. Ok what next? I saw a queue on the next room. Guess what they where waiting for us to finish our meal. Poor guyz. They had come over here to give their school details and a signature on our forms. After all there is not gonna be more than 15 schools in a panchayath , so that’s not a heavy task. By the time i finished that the VEO comes up with 100 filled up forms towards me handed over to me. I asked him about that? He said its the details of each individuals in the pachayath.
So why should someone else do what I am suppose to do????? I just asked him. I was ashamed after listening to him thinking what kind of a lazy Indian citizen am I? People talk about the strength of Indian youth like me. That’s bullshit. Till now I didn’t care about anything else other than some easy way of making money. Just that i got a professional degree doesn’t make any sense that I am a good citizen. After all what have i done for my motherland? nothing. Many be that VEO don’t have a high salary or nor educated as me , but i admire his sincerity and his urge and wish to bring some development to his panchayath. Only then I came to know that if they win this award they are gonna get some money that can be used for the development purposes. Its on that day that i realized who I am and what I am doing. All these degrees that I own is simply a waste, first I need to be aware of my duties . Well i wish from now on every Indian youth be aware of his duties.
After that day on i enjoyed the whole week doing the job. It was a awesome experience for me by interacting with many people and knowing more about how things work out in our society. And a important lesson that THERE ARE SOME OTHER THINGS TOO THAT ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MONEY IN THIS WORLD.

Now I totally understand why you were so frustrated at Saintgits. Hats Off to your attitude.
